This independent studies course provides Master of Social Work students in their specialist year the opportunity to design and complete a macro-level project tailored to their professional and academic interests. Students will work under faculty mentorship to identify a focus area in policy practice, organizational leadership, community engagement, advocacy, or research that aligns with their long-term professional goals. In their focus area students will critically analyze systemic issues and apply advanced macro-level practice theories. The course emphasizes self-directed learning and requires students to formulate individualized learning outcomes integrating at least three Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) core competencies.
